Terminology |
The following terms are used throughout this web site:
AFR - Atomic Freight Routing: The system
of transferring information pertaining to freight to remote
sites.
Agent: the service provider, for example Express
World Wide or TNT Air Couriers. An agent can have many services..
Connote and House Airway Bill are used
inter-changeably. Essentially the House Airway Bill is a
reprinted connote with extra information required by air freight.
A connote may contain many items or parcels of freight.
Consolidation information is broadcasted details about
current loadings of Master Airway Bills, trains, flights etc.
This data may be used as a determination for routing.
Container is used to describe a physical
freight container, a pallet as well as a conceptual container
like the Master Airway Bill. The Master Airway Bill is a document
required by the airline service providers.
Dispatch/Despatch: the point at which the details of the
packet are considered to be complete.
Hub: a central site comprised of one or more
computers and is responsible for sorting and sending packets.
Manifesting: the process whereby connotes are grouped
and assigned to a particular container.
Operation: the internal movement of freight, for
example moving the freight from the customers Door to the
destination Airport is an operation. Other examples are FCL
Terminal to Terminal.
Packet: represents a movement of
containers. It is linked to a flight number, truck
registration, train or sea vessel details. It is the outer most
envelope of freight movement information.
Service: the service provided to the
customer. Same Day Air, Rail Express or Overnight are examples of
services.
